Building Schools for the Future: Regional Student Conference, June 2006

We worked with Opun (the East Midlands Architecture Centre), Creative Partnerships Nottingham and Nottingham City Children’s Services to design, organise and facilitate a regional school students BSF conference.

We supported a team of students from Nottingham City secondary schools to design the conference, choose workshop topics, and to facilitate the whole event and all the workshops. The conference was held at the National College for School Leadership in Nottingham, and was attended by over 120 school student delegates from the East Midlands region.

It was a highly successful event – high energy, hands on, creative and engaging – and demonstrated the ability of school students not only to think creatively about how schools might be, but also to lead and facilitate this process.

Building Schools for the Future (BSF)

We are continuing to work with Nottingham City Children’s Services and the schools in the first phase of their Building Schools for the Future programme.

We are currently contributing to the preparation of output specifications, and ensuring that the visions developed with the school communities, staff and students are properly reflected in the documentation.

Creative Partnerships

We are working with several different schools in the region through the Nottingham, Derby and Bassetlaw, Ashfield and Mansfield Creative Partnerships. This work with schools generally focuses on making more creative use of existing spaces in the school and grounds while exploring possible interventions and proposals to adapt and transform existing spaces.

Community Projects

We have been working with community groups in two different parts of Nottingham, in both cases helping them to explore a shared vision, work together more collaboratively and make more imaginative and effective use of their current community buildings. We have produced reports and proposals for immediate modifications to their buildings alongside longer term and strategic development proposals
