Building Schools for the Future (BSF)

We are continuing to work with Nottingham City LEA and the schools in the first phase of their Building Schools for the Future programme. Click here to access an interactive CD of our work with one school in the Nottingham BSF programme

Work over the last term has included:

  • Overall development and planning of a participative consultation process aiming to involve and engage the whole school – staff, students, governors, parents and the broader community – in developing a vision for a new learning community and a brief for a building to feed this vision
  • Facilitating inset days with the whole school staff, governors and LEA staff working towards a shared vision
  • Facilitating workshops with staff groups (management teams and other staff groups) to develop specific aspects of the vision and programme
  • Working with staff to identify ways to involve students in the process, both within and beyond the curriculum
  • Developing student workshops building on the joinedupdesignforschools exhibition when it visited Nottingham
  • Establishing projects to engage students in the process. This includes our Designs for Learning project, supported by Opun (the East Midlands Architecture Centre) and Aimhigher , where we are working with a group of year 9 students to research learning, learning environments and design

We worked with a group of students from one of the mainstream schools to help them prepare a stunning presentation for the national RIBA / EBDOG Learning Environments conference at Nottingham University on the 19/20th September.

On behalf of Creative Partnerships we facilitated a seminar about our approach to creative consultation at the Shaping the School of the Future conference in London in November

In March 2006 we will be presenting and facilitating at the School-Works / Architecture Centre Network conference on Building Schools for the Future
