Learning-Space Creative Thinking Day
On Saturday May 21st we will be holding an event called Thinking Space at the University of Nottingham—bringing together a diverse group of people to reflect, share, exchange ideas and experiment in a supportive and challenging environment. We are hoping to make this an annual event. If you would like to know more about this please contact us
Workplace design and organisation
We are becoming increasingly involved in projects which explore the relationships between the physical organisation of workspace, and processes of organisational and cultural change.
We have been working with a large local authority to help them to consider the ways in which they might rethink the organisation and location of their current office accommodation. This work has identified different, more flexible ways of working, and a reorganisation of the workplace to facilitate improved communication, interaction and teamwork. A process of involvement and engagement with staff has been identified as a part of a broader cultural change process within the authority.
Building Schools for the Future (BSF)
We are currently working with a Wave 2 BSF authority, helping them to develop and deliver a consultation/ participative process. This process aims to involve and engage the broader school community in each of the schools in the BSF programme in developing a creative vision for the transformation of their school.
We are particularly interested in how a vision based on new approaches to learning can be translated into a vision for inspiring and innovative environments for learning – and on how the process of involving children, staff and parents in the creation of this vision can contribute to transforming learning environments in the school.
We are hoping to develop work with other authorities in the BSF programme, and also exploring possible collaboration with school-works on some projects.
Built environment education
We have recently completed a report for Opun , the East Midlands Architecture Centre, about built environment education – using the built environment as a learning resource and involving children and young people in thinking about and transforming their environments, both in schools and beyond. The report surveys existing projects in the East Midlands region, and identifies a possible future programme of work for Opun.
We also designed and facilitated the cabe-education / Opun regional networking seminar in the East Midlands – Constructive Learning. This seminar explored the curriculum and other learning opportunities within the process of visioning, designing and constructing new school buildings.
